New Year’s resolutions from the Sweek team

Written by the Sweek team

It’s this time of the year again… With the New Year’s Eve quickly approaching, we all start thinking of how we will change our life in 2017. Doing more sports, traveling more, being more healthy – you know how this goes 😉 Nonetheless, our Sweek team (the bravest ones;)) wanted to share some of our resolutions with you, dear Sweekers!

resolutions

Kim:

Finally start a diary! – For years and years now I keep buying pretty notebooks and am planning on starting my own diary, but I never really sit down to actually do it. So many moments that I never wanted to forget have already passed and are getting harder to recall. Next year I will put them forever on paper 🙂

Gain more experience! – So far I only studied business theories at university. Upcoming months working at Sweek will surely open new doors and finally enable me to apply my practical knowledge.

Veronika

Start writing short stories on Sweek (including travel stories)! – Shamefully enough, though I did write quite a few of our blog posts, I haven’t written a story on Sweek…Yet 😉 So during my next holiday I am definitely getting on that!
Also, I love travelling and whenever I get a chance, I escape to a new place. Life is a book and those who don’t travel read only the first page. Now it’s time to put those precious moments on paper!

Make more Sweek salads! – With things getting busier and busier around here, I have neglected my responsibilities of the co-founding member of the Sweek Salad Society. More salads are a must for next year!

Learn Spanish – Has been on my list of resolutions for the last few years! I might start with speaking Dutch first though;)

Sabine

Write new chapters for two of my ongoing stories. – The stories gained quite some followers, so I should definitely give them an update! Maybe they will become featured one day 😉

Read every single Dutch and English story on Sweek! – Good luck to me (at least I still have some holiday weeks for that;))

Carmen

Learning a new language. – Working in a multicultural company such as Sweek has its advantages, including ability to practice almost any language you want. On top of that, you can use Sweek to read stories in that language for free! It’s almost impossible to make it easier for me.

Getting to know Rotterdam. – I’ve been living here for some time, but I still haven’t visited the city in depth (the cold winter has most likely something to do with it), so definitely my resolution for 2017 is to discover this amazing city.

Larissa

Keep on cycling! – I moved to the Netherlands three months ago and my cycling skills were not that impressive – actually, I couldn’t really keep my bike straight for 2 minutes. Some falls and victories later, I can say I am a much better cyclist, because it’s just a matter of practice. In 2017, I want to cycle well enough to hold my bike with just one hand and carry shopping bags without being afraid of falling. It’s a challenge, but it’s not impossible.

Becoming an awesome cook – My boyfriend is a true masterchef!  Italian, Indonesian, Brazilian, Mexican food or even a very delicious breakfast… Sometimes I help him, but he is the true star in the kitchen! Next year, I want to learn how to really cook, without any help, and surprise everybody I know with my possible hidden talent – well, it might be tragic, but I will never know if I don’t try. Let’s be optimistic!

Speaking Dutch – I have been studying Dutch since January 2014 and, after I moved to Holland, I continued my studies. I still can’t keep a long conversation, but I understand much better than before. The evolution happens slowly, but it is very satisfying when I can communicate in Dutch in the supermarket, or understand everything written on a sign, for instance. So, next year, I will study even harder to feel more integrated.

Healthier lifestyle – I used to go to the gym around 3 or 4 times a week and eat a lot of salad and vegetables. Now that I am adapted to the European life and already tasted all the delicious Dutch snacks – such as frikandel, stroopwafel, saucijzenbroodje and poffertjes – I can come back to my healthy life. I can’t get rid of the lunch tostis, though 😛

Berfin

Improving my writing-  I will ask my friends for feedback on my stories so I can improve my writing style. I will also pay more attention to spelling. Hopefully, next year I can actually post my stories on Sweek.

Reading classics– I will start reading English classics that I haven’t read yet. Luckily there are a lot of those on Sweek!

Surprising my colleagues with Turkish food– I will bring Turkish food to the office for my colleagues to taste Turkish food other than Döner Kebab 😉

Peter Paul (straight to the point;))

Of course quit smoking, like I do every year

Write more: fiction and nonfiction

Read as many Sweek stories as possible

Play original Japanese song ‘Sukiyaki’ more (and ‘mojo pin’ of Jeff Buckley of course)

24/7 love to kids

Stay emperor of pinball for another 12 months…. 😉

Most importantly: stimulate writing and reading all over the world!

Sweekers, and what are your resolutions for upcoming 2017?

      Groet, Sabine
